During the end-of-year faculty breakfast, Principal Bindy Hathorn announced that Keegan Harris, an SHS Social Studies teacher since 2014, was named as Springfield High School's Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year.
As has been a tradition at Springfield High School for nearly a decade, teachers nominate their peers for the award, and the administration chooses amongst the nominees. In her presentation of the award, Ms. Hathorn noted that Mr. Harris was nominated by a number of his peers, and that he stood out for several reasons. Amongst them are his strengths in using student-centered learning, commitment to teacher collaboration, and willingness to improve his practice to meet the needs of the SHS teaching community. Mr. Harris has taught several different courses at the high school, including US History, American Studies, and Food Justice.
Mr. Harris and the rest of the SHS faculty are excited to welcome students back. 9th grade students report for orientation on Wednesday, August 28, and 10th-12th grade students begin the 2019-2020 school year on Thursday, August 29.
