Dear Springfield School District parents, students, and staff,
Over the past few weeks, the school district has been monitoring the news surrounding the outbreak of the respiratory illness now labeled COVID-19. The illness is caused by a novel (new) coronavirus. We want to share information about how Springfield Schools are responding to these concerns. We want to assure you that there have not been any cases, or suspected cases, of COVID-19 in Springfield. In fact, as of this message, there are no cases of people with COVID-19 in Vermont. It is important to note that at this point, the Vermont Department of Health advises that residents are much more likely to become sick with a cold or the flu than to be exposed to COVID-19. In addition, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has noted that “At this time, this virus is NOT currently spreading in the community in the United States.”
The Vermont Department of Health and the Vermont Agency of Education have shared guidance for school administrators regarding COVID-19 which we are following. As we move forward, we will be closely monitoring any and all updates from the Department of Health and the CDC.
