Springfield High is pleased to announce that Choices Matter will be coming to our school on Feb. 10. In partnership with highway safety offices across the country, Choices Matter is a life-changing program for students using personal stories and interactive materials to inspire students to make the right choices both behind the wheel and in life.
The program will feature guest speaker Fletcher Cleaves, as well as several interactive displays for Springfield High students, including an impaired driving simulator and a place to tell their own stories.
Cleaves was involved in a tragic car crash that left him paralyzed from the chest down due to a driver suspected of texting while behind the wheel. This traumatic incident caused him to lose his football scholarship but with perseverance and a year of intense physical therapy, he re-enrolled in school and graduated from The University of Memphis with a degree in Computer Science. Now as a professional motivational speaker, Fletcher is also a world traveler obtaining the nickname “The Wheelchair Nomad”. He travels to many countries living life to the fullest while also bringing awareness to accessibility issues in the travel industry.
Choices Matter has visited more than 1,000 schools in the last decade and works in conjunction with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. For further information, visit their website at choicesmatter.com
